How are private guns for sale advertised?

How are private guns for sale advertised? What media have you seen where you found them? Anything online? Garage sales ads,...?

(I don't mean the gunbroker.com type with all its rules...)

Newspaper in the ads under sporting goods. Go to gun shows. People will be walking around with signs.

There are quite a few 'net sites which facilitate FTF transactions. All one has to do is to look, there are too many to keep track of.

You might check your local TV station's website. Many have a free classified's section. For example, in the intermountain west ...

KSL

and

zIdaho

are the classifieds websites for the local, leading TV stations in Boise and Salt Lake. Lots of listings. Just make sure to learn the law in your state regarding what private (non-FFL) sales are legal, intra-state and in contiguous states.

Classifieds, pennysaver, bulletin boards at gun clubs and ranges as well as the obvious Gun Shows.

BE CAREFUL. CHECK YOUR STATE LAWS.

ATF will set up entrapment scams through all of the above.

For example: In Pennsylvania it is legal to transfer long guns without paperwork. Pistols are NOT.

But many people in PA regularly do this with pistols completely unaware that the laws have changed over the years. ATF loves to come to you at the gunshows and try this scam.

Ask questions, be cautious and if your gut tells you to walk then run.

In my area there was a very widely read paper that was strictly classified ads called "The Trader Paper". It was distributed over 1/3 of the state.

It has since disappeared due to competition by online ads. This paper always carried at least one hundred gun ads every week. Probably it's number one ad category was vehicles but it sold everything from pets to real estate.
